Greg W. Brawley is a seasoned steel detailing and fabrication professional with more than 57 years of industry experience across the United States, Australia, and the Philippines. His career began in 1967 as a Detailer‑in‑Training with Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Co., followed by early international work as a Journeyman Detailer in Sydney.
Upon returning to the United States, Greg advanced through roles in detailing, shop production management, and business leadership. He co‑founded Transbay Associates in 1974 and later established Brawley & Associates, growing it into a multi‑office firm providing detailing, estimating, consulting, and dispute resolution services for major commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Greg played an influential role in the National Institute of Steel Detailing (NISD), serving on the Board of Directors and chairing key committees. He contributed to the publication of the 1992 NISD Industry Standard and has been a frequent presenter at NISD, the North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC), and other industry forums.
Greg later served as Vice President of Steel Detailing for Crystal Steel Fabricator–Manila, where he led the expansion of their Manila engineering office. He then joined 4D Global Group (later DBM Vircon–Manila), focusing on staff development, technical education, QA/AC processes, and the creation of training programs and technical publications.
After retiring from DBM Vircon in 2024, Greg remains active in the construction modeling community. He is an NISD Emeritus Member, a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), the American Welding Society (AWS) and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Construction Modelers Association (PCMA).
His current focus of development, www.steelconstructionlearning.com, is a learning platform dedicated to building vocational expertise through foundational knowledge in steel detailing and steel construction.
