Curriculum

To effectively communicate structural matters during a project's design and execution, familiarity with basic language and terminology is required to ensure a clear understanding of structural issues and objectives. This module will discuss the following terms:

A.  Axial Tensile Stress

B.  Axial Compressive Stress     

C.  Shear Stress

D.  Bending Stress

E.  Web Crippling

F.  Bearing Stress

G.  Elastic and Plastic Deformation

H.  Buckling

I.    Moment of Inertia

J.   Fatigue Stress

While these terms apply generally to all structures and structural components, in these Modules they are applied in the context of structural steel elements of a building.
